    fellow in the EU FP7 consortium TriForC he is studying Cytochrome P450 enzymes involved in triterpene biosynthesis in multiple plants and their utilization for production of novel pharmaceutical and industrial lead compounds in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae Sabrina Iñigo Postdoctoral fellow Sabrina Iñigo a graduate in Biotechnology from National University of Quilmes Buenos Aires Argentina In 2011 obtained her PhD at Leloir Institute Foundation in Buenos Aires Argentina and studying the role of MED25 in the regulation of flowering time in Arabidopsis As a postdoc in the same Institute she started with the characterization of MEDIATOR complex subunits to understand how signalling is integrated at the transcriptional level In August 2013 she joined the Specialized Metabolism group with a BELSPO postdoctoral fellowship focussing on the characterization of E3 ubiquitin ligases targets and their function in hormone signalling Patricia Fernández Calvo Postdoctoral fellow Patricia Fernández Calvo a graduate in Biology from the University of Santiago de Compostela Spain obtained her PhD in the role of bHLH transcription factors TFs MYC3 and MYC4 in jasmonate JA signalling in Roberto Solano s group in the National Biotechnology Centre CNB CSIC in Madrid Spain in November 2011 As a postdoc in the same lab she was involved in the study of new repressors of JA signalling that belong to the bHLH family and on the crosstalk between light and JA responses After a short postdoctoral stay in France studying the epigenetic face of plant pathogen interactions in Lionel Navarro s lab she joined the Specialized Metabolism group in 2014 with an IEF Marie Curie FP7 fellowship to develop a new technology to map the Arabidopsis small metabolite protein interactome Small Metabolite Affinity Purification SMAP Predoctoral Researchers Philipp Arendt Predoctoral fellow Philipp Arendt obtained his Master s degree in Life Sciences from the Leibniz University of Hannover Germany in 2011 After an internship at BASF SE where he worked on the rational design of an industrial Ascomycete strain he started his PhD at VIB UGent As a fellow of the VIB International PhD Program of 2012 he now works on the discovery of genes involved in triterpene saponin biosynthesis and the engineering of the yeast S cerevisiae as a platform for combinatorial expression of terpenoid genes Jonas Goossens Predoctoral fellow Jonas Goossens graduated as Master of Science in Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the University of Ghent in 2012 During his master thesis he investigated ubiquitination in the jasmonate signalling pathway in the Specialized Metabolism group at PSB In this group he continued working to start his PhD funded by IWT in January 2013 His research focuses on protein protein interactions in the jasmonate signalling pathway using multiple techniques This knowledge is used for the characterization of protein complexes Furthermore Jonas is changing the interaction pattern of proteins by minor changes in the amino acid sequence to discover new transcription factor machineries and or to change their activity Jan Mertens Predoctoral fellow Jan Mertens graduated in 2009 as a Master in Bioscience Engineering at the University

  • Introduction
    metabolic machinery is still hardly exploited mainly because of the limited molecular insight into plant specialized metabolism By using cutting edge functional genomics tools in combination with reverse genetics screenings we aim to identify the essential components acting in the jasmonate signaling network and to characterize the molecular mechanisms driving plant natural product biosynthesis in crop medicinal and model plants A functional genomics based technology platform has been created that enables comprehensive investigations and large scale gene discovery programs in jasmonate signalling and plant metabolism The platform is built on the integration of transcriptome interactome and metabolome profiling data Based on these data extensive collections of genes are generated that allow increasing our fundamental understanding of the central mechanisms that steer jasmonate signalling in the context of plant growth and metabolism and that serve as a novel resource for metabolic engineering tools that will facilitate 1 the creation of a synthetic biology program for the sustainable production of existing or novel plant derived molecules with superior bioactivities and 2 increased crop productivity by improvement of plant growth and defence Research organogram Next Projects Alain Goossens Group Members Lab Members and Alumni Group in Action Publications Alain Goossens Research Groups Alain
