to fly often and at reduced costs The club also has a towplane MS 894 Rallye on hand On June 20 to celebrate the summer solstice the club organised a sympathetic open door to promote their activities One could have its first flight winch launched or aircraft towed on various types of gliders expertly flown by the local instructors The public present was given the opportunity to receive detailed information on the presented gliders As to mark the event the T A C also invited bygone gliders The most beautiful and rare being a Nord 2000 the Nord 2000 is the French formula of the DFS 108 70 Olympia Meise license built by SNCAN in 1947 Property of Mr Firmin Henrard of the Faucheurs de Marguerites association this glider was certainly one of the highlights of the day The quality of this aircraft and restoration a masterpiece of aeronautical woodworking filled the visitors with admiration I discoverd the link between aviation woodworking luteworks and aeronautics a real beauty After a day like this I can not do anything else than to invite you to come to the Tournai Air Club for a visit or why not a flight a training

this was the starting point for collaboration into the development production and support of the F 16 aircraft In 1980 the participating countries decided to acquire 169 additional aircraft known as follow on buy based on the success of the Multinational Fighter Program At this point the United States decided to start a new development program also called Agile Falcon to procure the next generation F 16 the C D models The purpose of this was to offer the European nations a large upgrading program for their own fleet The program called Mid Life Update gave the opportunity to modify the basic Block 10 15 aircraft and bring them to a near Block 50 capability including the integration of a glass cockpit and a mission computer The letters of offer and acceptance were signed in 1991 followed by the signature of the Mid Life Update acceptance in 1993 Parallel to this Mid Life Update another nation Portugal signed a contract for the acquisition of 20 F 16 A and B models with a second batch of 25 aircraft later on The Portuguese authorities were also interested to join the MNFP and this was concretized on June 9 2000 at the signature of a new Memorandum of Understanding with Portugal becoming the sixth nation of the MNFP Following the MLU update the main program within the MNFP is related to the Operational Flight Program Updates OFP Throughout these evolutions the participating nations maintained to the maximum extent possible the objective of commonality and interoperability The next planned OFP will take place in 2017 and will enable the European participating Air Force F 16 fleet to cope with the actual battlefield requirements 2015 saw the 40 anniversary of the MNFP proof that this concept is a real success within the F 16

and Ms Dorine Bourneton this disabled pilot who earned her aerbobatic licence and of whom we already talked in our report on La Ferté Alais Those two iconic ladies of French aviation each wrote a book and for us it was the occasion to get their books signed and have a little chat with them But let s get into the heat of the Salon du Bourget and talk about the demonstrations The first impression was that this year s Salon was resolutely turned towards civil and commercial aviation as the big military novelties were not present No F 35 Saab Gripen or Aermacchi M346 despite potential available sales Is Belgium not seaking to replace its F 16 Not to mention the aging pool of training aircraft Of course this Salon 2015 was the year of the batlle of the giants between Boeing and Airbus already started during the 2013 edition The displayed aircraft were an obvious evidence of this but beside those two giants other manufacturers such as Embraer or Sukhoi were quite present Not to forget the newcomer in the narrow body category the Canadian Bombardier company with its C series aimed at the medium range market Boeing and Airbus can await some increased competition for the years to come The Salon of Paris is also a main venue for manufacturers to exhibit their knowledge in the spatial and aeronautical domain The exhibition halls were filled with al kind of products ranging from seals bolts stickers markings to other products intended for aeronautical constructions As we will see further on the Belgian air and space industry was also well represented in hall 2 Let us have a look at these various categories but before going on the SBAP tam wishes to thank heartily the GIFAS and its press
