    day The deteriorating weather in the mountains being the real problem regarding visibility but most of all security reasons In spite of this bad news we had the opportunity to fly with the Super Puma to have a great overview of the airbase and tour the beautiful region of Meiringen and Brienz Mountains are very impressive seen from here Click on the picture to get the Meiringen photopage The next morning our team was already en route towards Axalp at 05 15 AM The program of this day was going up to the Ebenfluh shooting range but this time on foot As one of the participants stated Axalp is meritorious He was not wrong after all Going up to this aeronautical paradise is quite an adventure and breathtaking not only the view as the sun came up It was under a little shy sun and afterwards under her brightness we were granted firing exercises flown by F A 18 C and F 5 E The proficiency of the Swiss pilots is remarquable manoeuvering their planes in this mountainous terrain A very spirited demonstration indeed During the pause awaiting the highlights of the day including the Patrouille Suisse helicopters went of

  • Koksijde Air Day 2008
    military operations of the Air Component and the good co operation with the French Air Force was also demonstrated Some old flying machines were showed in the static area and some in flight like the Fouga the Vampire and the Avia BH 5 which arrived from the Czech Republic on July 29 to commemorate the historical flight made in 1923 between Prague and Brussels see our article AVIA BH 5 in the events pages The well known Royal Jordanian Falcons gave again a splendid demonstration showing the maestria of this team Koksijde 2008 was also the last official solo display in Belgium for 2 well known pilots Cdt Michael Mickey Artiges with the F 16 A M and the Cpt Rallet Ralloche from the French Air Force with his Mirage 2000 Mickey is ending it s show after 3 years of realy high level demonstration and the French Air Force decided to put an end to the Mirage 2000 display at the end of this season So let s hope their solo display will be followed on with the brand new generation fighter the Rafale It was a real great show except for the weather conditions but the amount of

    succes with about 80 000 visitors Those special days where inaugurated by HRH Prince Philippe of Belgium It is wel known that the Prince shows great interest for the new technologies and was realy interested by the mock up of the F 35 Many activities were provided for the public demonstrations expositions vehicles Informations stands were all over the place to show and present all the aspects and possibilities offered by the Belgian Defence It iss a fact that the first goal of the Belgian Defence Days is to attract new generations for a military carreer These days were also the occasion to put up an international airshow The quality was certainly present and all the demontrations have shown the quality and the great experience of all the pilots Not to forget the ground personal of the Belgian Air Component The high skill levels of the aerobatic teams Patrouille de France Turkish Stars Breitling and Victor and of the solo displays Armee de l Air KLU Swiss Air Force were a gratification for our eyes Glorious aircrafts like the Skyraider P 40N and other P 51D were also present In all the week end was a real success and the

    could promote this aircraft and open a possible market The pilot Zdenek LHOTA started the flight from Prague on June 28 1923 but had to land in Cheb after two hours of flight because of the fog The following day he started again but had to land again after 02 hours 45 of flight in Mainz in France because of the bad weather On June 30 he took off at 11 00 a m and landed in Evere Belgium at 01 20 p m and doing so arrived just in time for the contest He had travelled the distance of 800 km with an average speed of 138 km h He managed to disassemble and reassemble his aircraft in time and was declared victorious for the category of less then 100 ch His Majesty King Albert I handed him over the trophy personally Thanks to that Belgium became interested in the Avia company in 1925 and particularly in the project of the BH 21 In 1926 the Belgian government finally bought 44 examples of which 5 were built in Czechoslovakia and the 39 remaining at SABCA The first aircraft were delivered at Schaffen on September 14 1927 and later at
