  • Wings Parade and 40 Years SF260 Marchetti
    and Lt Avi Kristof Heffinck 1 transport pilot Capt Avi Jean François Beguin 1 helicopter pilot Capt Avi François Warnant The will join their operational squadrons and receive their further operational conversion The wings ceremony with the presence of MOD Mister Pieter De Crem Together with the Wings Parade Beauvechain airbase was also home to the official opening of the celebration year of 40 years SF 260 Marchetti and 300 000 flight hours in Belgian service This 300 000 th hour was flown on Monday March 02 2009 by Cdt Avi Papy Colard Cdt Avi Papy Collard atempt 300 000 Marchetti flight hours The Marchetti year was launched with the presenation of ST40 in the aniversary colors The SF260M Marchetti began its career with the Belgian Air Force 40 years ago with delivery at Goetsenhoven in 1969 as replacement for the aging SV 4 and flying the trainees through their initial training with the 5 Squadron 1992 saw the acquisition of 9 SF260D equipped for instrument flying Within the scope of the modernisation program all aircarft are being brought up to the M standard from 2005 on This aircraft with yet some years to come flew 300 000 hours during its career with the Belgian Air Component former Air Force and to celebrate this event the aircraft SF260D ST 40 was adorned with a special paint scheme The aircraft was revealed to the public by Pieter De Crem Minister of Defence and Lt Gen Avi Gerard Van Caelenberge Above Gembloux Amazing formation The special formations 40 years 9 for the 9 squaron and the 5 for the 5 squadron All the Marchetti pilots Completing this celebration and following the fly past of one Seaking 4 A 109 Agusta 1 Alouette II 1 Embraer ERJ145 1 Alpha Jet and 4 F

  • Hardship Red
    After the success in 2008 with a 4 ship team the authorities agreed to officialise the new team for 2009 Again with 4 aircraft the team was named Hardship Red originating from the call sign used by the Marchetti for training flights at Beauvechain 12 years after the Swallows folded their wings this new enterprise will undoubtedly bring a renewal which will certainly be received with enthousiasm by the public Although Hardship Red will not be an aerobatic team like the Swallows but rather be a team demonstrating the maestria in formation flying of the pilots The 2009 team is formed by 5 pilots each one being an instructor pilot within the 5 Squadron Hardship Red is led by Maj Avi Jean François Jief Balon n 2 CDt Avi Alain Papy Collard n 3 Nicolas Choco Delfosse and n 4 Kapt Vl Kristof Cloety Cloetens The 5 th teammember acting as a spare is Cdt Avi Christophe Tcholle Deroubaix As to mark the officialization of the team a badge was created and not without some pride can we announce that S B A P together with the pilots of the team participated in the creation and elaboration of this badge

    on the BAHA web site Cdt Michael Mickey Artiges Cdt Avi Michael Artiges joined the Belgian Air Force in 1993 as an airfield policeman He integrated the Promotion 93A and after a successful training received his wings in 1995 After a conversion onto the F 16 in the United States Cdt Artiges passed through the OCU with the 10th Wing at Kleine Brogel Finally he joined the 350 Squadron based at Florennes During this period he participated actively in the Balkan campaign In 2002 he left this Squadron for the Operation and Evaluation Center OEC After this administrative period Cdt Artiges went back to an operational unit the 1st Squadron also based at Florennes During his career Mickey has totalised 2450 flight hours of which 2050 on F 16 Who is Michel MITCH BEULEN The new demo pilot of the Air Component F 16 Solo Display 2009 2011 is Michel Mitch BEULEN of 349 F Squadron at Kleine Brogel Air Base Mitch was born on June 16th 1975 in Oostende and lives together with Kim and his 2 sons Niels and Mathias in Hasselt since 2003 He acquired his first flying experience with the Belgian Air Cadets BAC in 1992 In October 1996 he joined the pilot s promotion Prom Pil 96B From January 1997 Mitch received basic flight training on SF260 Marchetti with the 5th Squadron at Beauvechain the Advanced Flying Training on Alpha Jet with the 7th Squadron and his Initial Operational Training with the 11th Squadron On 16 D ecember 1998 he received his pilot wings In September 1999 Mitch moved to Kleine Brogel for his operational conversion on the F 16 in the Operational Conversion Unit OCU Initial ly on F 16 OCU block 15 and afterwards on F 16 MLU MidLife Update In S eptember
