    is the case of our national astronaut Frank De Winne A very nice adventure with a handful of enthusiasts By the way the Belgian Defence Aeroclub former FBA Aeroclub BSD will be recognised as RBDA Royal Belgian Defence Aeroclub in 2013 due to its official recognition in the Moniteur belge in 1963 It will be proudly mentioned and related through press releases Back to November 28 2011 The big day has arrived All members were present early in the morning for the final departure from Bierset bathed in a bright winter sun like one in the finest Indian summers After the briefing everyone knew what to do and knew his position in the formation It was now time to remove the aircraft from the so characteristic Bierset shelter and prepare the aircraft for the great transhumance All pilots strapped in proceeded to start as soon as permission was given by the tower A long taxi to Runway 23L and a last mocking hello to the giants in the air park in the cargo area of the airport Then it was the takeoff and a last formation pass on the outskirts of the former military base nostalgia when you hold us The flight was used to do some souvenir pictures and it was soon Florennes area which passed under the wings The formation broke and it was the fastest aircraft Cessna 172 and PA 28 that landed first The welcoming committee was indeed present in the person of Colonel Michel Colles Base Commander that came in person to welcome its new tenants The mission ended as it should with a warm and friendly drink and as in all the traditional squadron bars the discussions went well and the memories resurfaced This again turned a page in history and a mission carried

  • MD-900 fire fighter !
    actors and the Ministry of Internal Affairs This co operation is part of a general plan to cope with wildfire like those in the Hoge Venen Midden Limburg and on the Kalmthoutse Heide Engagements regarding the call out of the helicopters the communication between the crew and the ground staff and the co operation on the scene The exercise consisted of two parts the first one being practise waterdrops onto traffic cones to demonstrate the capabilities and precision of the Air Support Unit in this matter The second part was a live fire exercise On both exercises the drops were guided by canaries ground staff called so because of their yellow fluorescent waistcoats In addition to these waterdrops a demonstration was given to fly in materials cargosling and to extract a fire fighter from the danger zone winching During the exercises a second helicopter provided live images relayed directly to the ground station which allowed the operational command to adapt the strategy where needed At the moment the Air Support Unit can rely on one collapsible Bambi bucket with a capacity of 910 liters for fire fighting interventions but a second one has already been purchased by the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with a movable watertank in case of problems to scope up the water out of ponds rivers streams or even sw i mming pools Some fire fighters will also be sent to southern France to one of the fire schools to learn more about the fire fighting of wildfires Arrival on the site Visual recon of the area Fire fighters receiving an update on the Bambi bucket winching and cargosling The same was done regarding the imaging possibilities Taking off with the Bambi bucket Wildfire raging on G 16 in the heat haze This helicopter provided real

    to see them very often so it was nice seeing them in action The Finish F A 18 C from 31 Fighter Squadron based at Rissala Air force base gave a nice display also using its demo flares which provides nice visual effects The Mig 29 A Fulcrum is based at the Polish Airbase Minsk Mazowiecki with the 1 st Air Tactical Squadron The MIG doesn t need a lot of smoke pods since it typically leaves behind some black smoke anyway We have to enjoy seeing the Mig 29 as well in action since it will not be long before it will be retired as well The Typhoon could not be forgotten of course and this one was presented by the 311 Gruppo Reparto Sperimentale Volo of the Italian Air force based at Airbase Pratica di Mare Not seen many on air shows in our area and the pilot Major Raffaele Beltrame gave insight in the manoeuvrability of this jet The highlight of the show although missed a great part of it was definitely the 6 ship formation of Hunters The 6 ship was formed by a 4 ship of Team Viper and a 2 ship for the Dutch Hawker Hunter Association They fly a Hunter T 8C N 321 and a Hunter F 6A N 294 Team Viper is based in the UK and is flying a Hunter T 7 WV372 Hunter GA 11 XE685 Hunter PR 11 XG194 and a Hunter T 7 G VETA The Hawker Hunter has this typical sound which is called the Blue Note Although it was only a short afternoon at Leeuwarden I was happy making the trip and seeing some unusual things anyhow W e will have to wait till 2013 for a next air show in the Netherlands organized by
