  • Zhukovsky: 100 years Russian aviation
    Red Bull Corsair was the only aircraft which did not fit in here since it was never delivered to the USSR MiG 15 and PZL Swidnik Mi 2 represented Soviet aviation after the Great Patriotic War The Mi 2 is still flying with DOSAAF Foreign Display Teams A number of foreign displays were invited Frecce Tricolori Red Arrows Midnight Hawks Team Iskra and the Rafale solo display performed in the Russian sky Especially the Red Arrows were interesting since they flew with only 6 instead of the for this year usual 7 Hawks Parade time 5 impressive fly bys of aircraft showed what is currently in service with the Russian Air Force First fly by was of the Tupolev bombers 3 Tu 22M3 from Chaikovka followed by 3 Tu 95MS and 3 Tu 160 from Engels Antonov was next to make its mark 3 An 2 followed by an An 26 An 140 and An 12 BP from Chkalovsky followed by an An 22 from Tver and concluded by an An 124 again from Chkalovsky Some transports and special duty planes Tu 134UBL from Chkalovsky 3 Il 76MD from Tver an Il 80 from Chkalovsky and an A 50 from Ivanovo And a mixed duty fly by 3 Su 24M and an Su 24M4 from Lipetsk 4 MiG 31B and MiG 31BM from Savasleyka 4 Su 34 from Voronezh and 4 Yak 130 from Borisoglebsk Mil Mi 8 and Mil Mi 26 A pair of Mil Mi 24 Hind Capability Demonstrations Supermaneuverability You read about it and you watch it on youtube But it leaves you with your jaw on the ground when you see it live in action This company owned Su 35S impressed the public every minute of its display DOSAAF was present with a formation of 5 L 39C trainers from Vyasma This formation of 6 Mil Mi 28N was named after the Berkuty Golden Eagles team formerly flying on Mi 24P Hinds Although looking impressive it did nothing more than flying a circuit in a fixed formation The other attack helicopter the Ka 52 Alligator gave a full display Yakovlev and Sukhoi have produced a line of excellent airplanes for aerobatics This was demonstrated by a solo display of a Su 31 and a group demonstration of 3 Yak 52 and 1 Yak 54 of DOSAAF MiG and Sukhoi both displayed their latest The MiG 29M2 4 generation fighter performed a solo display before joining up with the Sukhoi T 50 fifth generation fighter Both flew in formation before the public This was the second prototype of the T 50 Unfortunately it did not perform a solo display as was the case at last year s MAKS Four MiG 29 from Astrachan made a fly by before breaking in two pairs for a mock dog fight demo An impressive fly by was made by 2 MiG 29 4 Su 34 and 4 Su 27SM and Su 27SM3 from Lipetsk The MiG 29 performed a dog fight

  • Koksijde: Aid to the nation...
    Road prevention DVI recognition of victims and much more The Protection Civile who is regularly on the terrain to help the population was also present with different and heavy equipment Was noted also different kind of anti pollution units civilian medical evacuation companies and also old timer s vehicles that have a relation with the emergency services This open door was a new but interesting concept to show the public who and what is involved in security The public was able to visit different exhibitions but also be a witness of dynamic demonstrations like anti explosive dog show chemical bacteriologic interventions fire brigade in action air support unit helicopter in various missions and the well known Seaking in a SAR Search and Rescue demonstration This unusual event was also the occasion to hold a formal ceremony in memory of all the victims who gave their life during interventions After a speech from Lt Col vli Peter Van den Broucke base commander of Koksijde and Mister Marc Vanden Bussche Mayor of the city underlining the importance of all the emergency units in a country a minute of silence was held and a wreath was laid at the foot of the national colors The closure of the ceremony was performed by a Seaking fly pass above the parade ground supported by all the present vehicles sirens impressive and very touching As conclusion we can say that this kind of manifestation was a good initiative and the total amount of visitors was the proof of the interest After the open door end was a runway run organized between 5 pm and 7 pm A run from 5 or 10 kilometers on the taxiway and runway of the base This second event of the day had also a great success with 250 inscriptions and

  • 349 Squadron: Happy birthday "Mace"
    moved to Ikeja in Nigeria were the squadron will be operative After the liberation of North Africa in May 1943 the 349 squadron moved back to the UK Many missions will be accomplished during 1943 1944 and the squadron took part at the D Day on June 6 th 1944 As from September 1943 the squadron was equipped with the Supermarine Spitfire Mk Vb model until the arrival of the new model the Mk IXb in February 1944 After the victory the squadron was based successively at Wunsdorf B116 and Fassberg B152 until October 1946 when the squadron moved back to Belgium at Beauvechain At this period the squadron was equipped with Spitfire LF 16 and Mk XIV The 349 was the first jet operating squadron with the arrival of the Gloster Meteor F 4 in May 1949 End of 1953 the F 4 model was replaced by the F 8 more performing The Meteor flew under the 349 squadron colors until the arrival of the Hawker Hunter in April 1957 This fighter will be fast replaced and the basic day fighter replaced into all weather with the arrival of the CF 100 Mk V Canuck at the end of 1958 Mid 1964 the squadron is fully equipped and operational on the new fighter the Lockheed F 104G Starfighter The 349 squadron was operational on the starfighter until the arrival of the new General Dynamic later Lockheed Martin F 16 Fighting Falcon The squadron was the first declared fully operational on the new fighter on January 1 st 1981 This little overview to highlight the 70 anniversary of the squadron in 2012 and the special paint applied on the FA 110 The plane wears a modern style white and blue scheme colors of the squadron The tail is decorated with

    to see what is around in current day aviation industry And traditionally some new and interesting aircraft are already long gone e g Boeing s Dreamliner or Gripen NG or non flying e g Yak 130 at the public days Below are some impressions of the flying display and the static park Virgin Galactic must be applauded They were one of the few chalets still open for the public presenting something radically new for the future of aviation and space exploration alike Space Ship Two a six passenger two pilots space ship that will offer people the opportunity to experience sub orbital space travel For the moment obviously only for the rich and famous it challenges the industry to rethink concepts Airbus was present with the A 380 and A 400M A 380 gave a nice display in the humid conditions Only movement for the A 400M was pulling it out of the way of the A 380 in the static park Fighters were represented in the flying display by the RAF Typhoon display and by a demonstration of the F 18F Super Bug These boys and girls really deserved respect The Blades performed in rainy and windy conditions Weather approved when the Breitling Wing Walkers displayed although standing on top of the wing must have been hard Despite the great display of South Korean s Black Eagles at Waddington and Fairford the solo display was a little bit disappointing Yak 130 was announced on the flying display but did not move an inch Obviously air show visitors do not buy military trainers KDC 10 of Omega Air Refueling was a welcome addition to the static park This Blackhawk was license build in Poland Finmeccanica company had a nice exhibition with among other types Agusta Westland AW159 Lynx Wildcat and

    the Fighter Wing a private company provides airplanes including Super Sabres for target tugging as well Jagdgeschwader JG71 Richtofen There was also a short lived Jagdgeschwader 71 serving with the Luftwaffe during the early stages of World War II It consisted of one group with a staff and two squadrons It was created on the 16 th July 1939 in Schleissheim and served until designated II JG 51 in October 1939 The unit was formed in June 1959 equipped with 50 Canadair Sabre Mk 6 s and stationed at the former RAF base in Ahlhorn The highest scoring fighter pilot of all time Erich Hartmann flew the Canadair Sabre and aircraft such as the Lockheed F 104 Starfighter in the newly formed wing in the late 1950s On the 21 st April 1961 the 43 rd anniversary of the death of Red Baron Rittmeister Manfred Von Richthofen JG 71 was given the honorary title of Richthofen by Federal President Heinrich Lübke In 1961 JG 71 transferred from Ahlhorn to Wittmund In May 1963 the introduction of the first F 104 Starfighters into Luftwaffe service took place In 1974 the Wing obtained its first F 4F Phantom II s and on the 19 th September 1974 the unit s Starfighters were decommissioned In 1988 the Wing s secondary role of Fighter Bomber Attack was given up so that JG 71 is now exclusively a Fighter Wing JG 71 is part of NATO s Immediate Reaction Force meaning that it must be ready to deploy 12 aircraft on five days notice Currently the Phantoms are kept operational to fulfill Quick Reaction Alert QRA interceptions and provide training for future Eurofighter Typhoon pilots JG 71 is sharing its QRA duties with JG 74 which completed Eurofighter conversion in late 2008 Depending on the
