the questions of the visitors and why not be the trigger to start a career in the unique world of aviation The only downside of the day was of course the real bad weather conditions that caused the cancellation of some units like the Seaking who were kept in standby at the coast or the 15 th Wing fleet that remained at Melsbroek air base But thanks to the heated shelter the open mind and warmth of the Air Force crew this day was a success and some youngsters that were present will certainly choose a job under the Belgian national colors and the idyllic Belgian Air Force Good luck to them and rendez vous in 2014 for the next edition Welcome at 1st Training Wing Luc Dujardin A possible job under the national colors Luc Dujardin To share the passion with the youngsters Serge Van Heertum Like a dream Serge Van Heertum Some technical explanaitions Luc Dujardin Luc Dujardin Protection unit Serge Van Heertum Luc Dujardin Luc Dujardin Fire brigade Luc Dujardin Terrain control tower Luc Dujardin Waiting to get into the fighter Luc Dujardin Line armament Luc Dujardin Luc Dujardin 80th UAV squadon Serge Van Heertum A good

  • Sainte-Maxime 2012
pilots a trio of French Air Force instructors was present Patrouille Cartouche Doré as well as an impressive duo of Tiger helicopters there was also Michel Brocard s admirable Rafale display and finally the Patrouille de France Among various celebrities in attendance TV show host Vincent Lagaffe demonstrated a nautical aeronautical concept the Flyboard it surely looks great fun but rather physical Just like last year the airshow was interspaced by a sensational show on the stage with the Stade de France pom pom girls a fashion show by the Aeronautica Militare brand a musical mix by DJ Sara Costa and a performance by the Rolling Stones cover band 100 Stones An entire area was reserved for static displays with Air Force stands Epsilon Mirage 2000 and Alpha jet flight simulators the latter synchronised to simulate a PAF display and a Jaguar in SPA 15 1 5 Provence colours standing on the beach just a few meters from the water The weather conditions were such not to mention the presentation angles according to the time of day that the sun when present seemed to play with the aircraft trajectories and the photographer s nerves some of these photos show that even if backlit views are not great for details they are much better for artistic results I particularly wish to thank Laurent Cahuzat and his Bleu Ciel Airshow team for their kindness and the great welcome extended to all I also want to congratulate him for the quality of the cast This sort of weekend is all the more difficult to organise as there is no airfield everything takes place above water Our thanks are also deserved by Pierre B uffet passionate and fascinating commentator who allowed many newcomers to understand what was going on in the air Many thanks

  • Who is "Grat"?
re all classic figures Choose s the sequence of the maneuvers and from there I ve sent the report with the sequences the figures and the flight parameters It s the Aviation Service Directory that analyses the project first According to their opinion I ve made some changes to the program and then the report is sent to the highest echelons of Staff for approval Once the program is accepted how are things unfolding First of all I ve done some tandem flights with Mitch to get a feel of things First in the backseat and then in front with Mitch behind me to give me precious tips to develop my figures Then I started solo flights on a safety altitude slowly descending to finally reach the show altitude safely I must also add that to develop the display I was fortunate to have the support and good advice from two devilishly good former pilots Michaël Mickey Artiges and Michaël Puke K oos Why was it the FA84 that was chosen Actually I haven t chosen the plane at all It s DG MR General direction of materials that listed potential planes within the fleet and finally chooses a plane that still has time before his next big maintenance and also avoiding planes that have already been used for demonstrations The choice mostly is made towards planes that haven t taken too much G s yet At the moment of choosing there were 3 or 4 planes that fulfilled the criteria and the 84 was chosen The goal is that the aircraft can at least finish the season before returning to revision during winter and be ready again in March for the next season only needing some touch ups on the paint job You can compare it to a game of Tetris in a way that the whole planning of maintenances fit together seamlessly In the F 16 display team you re the number one Are all people around you a personal choice or do they volunteer I don t have anything to do with the choice or composition of the teams I ve simply asked to provide me 3 alternating teams to accompany me You need to know that in general that the team leaves ahead of me and gets back after me so if I leave 4 days they are on the move 5 or 6 days which is too much for one single team So there are 3 teams of 4 people with optional back up The composition of those teams is not written in stone which means they re interchangeable to fit the needs The minimum for me is 1 team leader 2 crew chiefs airplane technicians and 1 weapons specialist On every deployment we add a technical officer that takes the role of exec officer thus being responsible of administration housing transport simply all tasks that are a little ungrateful but this allows me to focus on the task at hand One person also accompanies
