  • Seaking Crew Honored
    a second SeaKing continued the search for survivors of the Baltic Ace said Adjudant Peter Boyen the emergency medic of the selected crew All winners highlighted the teamwork The role of each crew member is well defined and training is continuous It is a well oiled machine which is necessary for a successful rescue in such hostile conditions said the First Sergeant Jurrie Mulier the crew s diver Therefore the Koksijde Seaking Crews have not received this award by chance as this is their third time The Seaking Rescue 05 was the first to arrive at the scene of the collision between the Baltic Ace and the Corvus J in the night of December 5th 2012 in the middle of the North Sea The crew engaged in the rescue of the shipwrecked personnel despite rough seas and freezing rain saving seven lives As the saying goes Good Show guardian angels C est un équipage de SeaKing de la base de Koksijde qui fut récompensé par le prix Marie Monseur Fontaine le mercredi 6 novembre 2013 La Maison des Ailes a ainsi souligné l incroyable prouesse accomplie par ces hommes en secourant les naufragés du navire Baltic Ace en décembre 2012 Cette performance exceptionnelle de l équipe SAR Search and Rescue qui s est déroulée la nuit du 5 décembre 2012 a fait l unanimité au sein du jury La Maison des Ailes a décerné le prix Marie Monseur Fontaine sans aucune hésitation C est une belle reconnaissance du travail de la 40e Escadrille Nous n étions pas seuls un deuxième SeaKing a poursuivi la recherche des naufragés du Baltic Ace a ajouté l adjudant Peter Boyen l urgentiste de l équipage primé Tous les lauréats ont mis en avant le travail d équipe Le rôle de chaque membre d équipage

    12 sqm floating platform And all this wearing a dinner jacket of course The sky s azure was also marked by the colours of the Patrouille de France on the Sunday for its last display of the year There awas also a duo of French Army Aviation Tiger helicopters as well as a thundering show by Captain Tao Planche Rafale Solo Display his aircraft wearing the 2013 NATO TIGER MEET livery stunning New for this year and a Ste Maxime exclusive Guy Westagate and Peter Wells SWIP Team choreography a highly precise bit of flying very impressive by day and also by night as their microlights are fitted with wingtip flares illuminating the twilight Simply awe inspiring I would be remiss if I did not mention Pierre Buffet s precious commentary a fount of knowledge a specialist and a historian a great Gentleman for a great show Together with sports commentator Stéphane Gabarre he kept the spectators spellbound during the whole week end Said spectators also had the benefit of sexy and energetic interludes thanks to the FFWM Girls and DJ Maeva Carter The show went on with giant balloons and also the famous flyboard displayed just in front of the beach A fireworks display concluded the week end like an August the 15th at the seaside Finally I would like to thank very warmly Laurent and Véronique Cahuzat Bleu Ciel Airshow directors and conductors of this superb week end for their kindness and the care taken of your SBAP correspondent Their consideration went as far as allowing me to fly in the Hamilton Extra 200 with Philippe Varinot at the controls for a breathtaking aerobatic flight with positive and negative Gs in very close succession Thank you Philippe for being such a learned and friendly pilot Many thanks also

  • Defence Road Show
    visit the control center of Milligen Apeldoorn where Belgian military are already in traineeship Named Air Operation Control Station Nieuw Milligen it comprises the Control and Reporting Center Squadron the 711 th Air Traffic Control Squadron and the 970 th Support Squadron Next was a visit to the Gilze Rijen airbase and its AH 64D Apache combat helicopters For some times now the pilots of the 301 th Squadron are often integrated in air ground support missions of Belgian forces see SBAP report on Pampa Range and the Centenary of Belgian aviation This concluded these two intensive days but do take note that the common agreements not only apply to those two visiting days Other partnership initiatives are being considered within the BeNeLux defence smaller perhaps but no less important It is clear that the tendency to turn towards an European Army is present at least for organizational matters Dans la structure de défense des temps modernes les coopérations au niveau international sont devenues incontournables Depuis la mi 2012 le cabinet et les chefs de la Défense Belge Néérlandaise et Luxembourgeoise travaillent sur différents dossiers Dans le cadre de ces accords les Ministres de la Défense Belge et Néérlandaise se sont engagés dans l élargissement de ces coopérations avec entre autres la signature fin octobre 2013 en marge du sommet de l OTAN d un accord sur la police aérienne commune Les accords de coopération visent comme nous l avons vu le QRA Quick Reaction Alert intimement lié au contrôle aérien mais aussi l usage des forces héliportées et différentes formations militaires communes Pour affirmer cette volonté les chefs des Forces Aériennes Belges et Neerlandaises ont effectués les 30 et 31 octobre des visites de différentes installations tantôt en Belgique tantôt aux Pays Bas Le road show du Général Major Claude Vande Voorde et de son homologue Néérlandais le Lieutenant Général Alexander Schnitger a débuté le 30 octobre par une visite du CRC Glons pour se rendre ensuite à Beauvechain La visite suivante fut consacrée à l école SERE Survive Evade Resist Extract permettant aux invités de se faire expliquer les buts de cette école et de concrétiser l accord binational qui standardisera les cursus pour les soldats Belges et Hollandais Une bonne formation à la survie en milieu hostile est le meilleur moyen de mettre toutes les chances de son côté pour se sortir de situations délicates en terrain hostile Les derniers conflits auxquels ont participés les Belges ou les Néérlandais ont mis en lumière cette nécessité tant pour les hommes de terrain que pour les pilotes qui devraient s éjecter C est dans cette optique que les généraux ont confirmés leur engagement dans une déclaration d intention remise au Capitaine Tom De Wilde Commandant du Combat Survival Centre CSC Ce fut ensuite une visite au nouveau bâtiment destiné au personnel en charge de la flotte d hélicoptères basée à Beauvechain A109 NH 90 et au hangar transformé pour le NH 90 Les délégations ont ensuite pris la direction

    thank Sam Vander Linden Paul Leys and the Reds for their invitation to be part of those unforgettable moments In conclusion the SBAP team wish all the best to Colonel Van Hecke in his new job good luck and a happy retirement to Luc Jaucot and a proficient new career to Stef do not forget a little upside down flight overhead runway 25R at Brussels Airport Have a nice flight and always a safe landing Colonel Avi Jean Van Hecke Luc Jaucot and Stef Braem the airmen of the day Fin octobre signifie la fin de la saison des shows aériens en Europe Le 30 octobre après le passage de la tempête Christian qui a fait pas mal de dégâts un peu partout en Europe la météo était devenue beaucoup plus clémente C est sous un ciel bleu et un soleil radieux que la base de Beauvechain grouillait d activités permettant ainsi de reprendre les vols d entraînements sur Marchetti ou A109 C est également ce jour qui fut choisi par les Red Devils pour effectuer leur ultime démonstration de la saison 2013 Dans le courant de l après midi les quatre diables s alignèrent sur la piste 22R décollage en direction de la base de Kleine Brogel pour y faire une démonstration durant une visite des Silver Spuur à la base Limbourgeoise Ensuite retour à Beauvechain et préparation pour leur dernier vol au dessus de la homebase En cette fin d après midi les familles et invités commencèrent à rejoindre les installations de la 9ème escadrille Un dernier briefing et les voilà fin prêts pour leur baroud d honneur Mise en route vers 16 heures 20 sous un soleil descendant pendant que les derniers Marchetti rentrent de mission offrant des images du plus bel effet Les quatre avions rouges après leur taxi s alignèrent sur la 22R et ce fut le décollage en formation en direction d un soleil de plus en plus rougeoyant augurant des images inoubliables Virage à droite pour revenir vers les spectateurs et go pour le show Les Red Devils nos Red Devils offrirent encore une fois un tout grand spectacle avec des reflets de soleil couchant sur leurs machines Nos quatre as se donnèrent à fond pour ce dernier vol de la saison les réactions des spectateurs furent unanimes en ce sens Mais ce dernier vol de la saison avait malgré tout un petit goût amer c était le dernier vol du numéro 4 Stef Braem qui d ici peu se tournera vers l aviation civile A la fin du show les quatre avions revinrent face au public et le numéro 4 quitta la formation pour offrir à ses invités une dernière série en solo Après ce salut tout particulier les Reds revinrent au complet en formation line astirn pour le break final Retour au parking arrêt moteur et hot débriefing clôture ainsi la saison 2013 des Red Devils Mais la journée n était pas finie pour autant rendez vous au bar de l

  • 100 years Mediteranean Sea crossing
    and two SR22 one Beech A36 Bonanza and one Piper PA 28 took off for Tunisia with pilots from both groups at the controls They got along famously sharing a brand new aeronautical experience The outbound flight took them from Cannes to Bizerte military airbase via Figari the return flight from Bizerte to the various home aerodromes of the aircraft A great success A distinguished guest was among the participants Jean Pierre Lefèvre Garros Roland Garros nephew a fount of knowledge about his uncle s life and the author of a biography published in 2001 He was together with all the members of the expedition extended a very warm and friendly welcome by the Tunisian civil and military authorities On september 23rd anniversary date of the crossing a plaque was unveiled in a square in Bizerte with the Mayor of the town in attendance as well as members of both associations shoolchildren from La Réunion and a number of French Réunion and Tunisian journalists A fine ceremony and a great symbol of the bond of friendship established by Garros on the occasion of his historic flight On behalf of SBAP I would like to thank the pillars of the APMR association its Founder and President Jean Marie Perrier an untiring and perfect organizer Thierry Greg Babouc Loïc Jobap as well as Ludovic Béjot CPH President always there when you need him and his most charming Vice President Manon Altazin all the members of the Disabled Pilots Association and of the Miraud Volants The Aeroclub Bats My thanks also go to Georges Perez Tim Ellison and all the pilots Special thanks to Charlotte Bellec Cirrus Aircraft for her kindness her relaxed attitude her piloting skills and her sense of humor The Morane type H replica the same as Roland Garros in

    plans onto the 3D of the aircraft His professional experience allows him to harmonize this gigantic puzzle perfectly A colossal piece of work tens of litres of paint solvent and varnish hundreds of metres of tape and masking material carried out in record time twelve 13 hour days all done in a masterly manner In the end a good loking aircraft is not created by a designer alone a talented painter is an absolute requirement to give life to a design This aircraft s moment of glory came on September 30 on Nancy Oschey 133 airbase before an audience of VIPs 133 Squadron veterans and Armed Forces representatives when the Squadron celebrated its 70th anniversary A perfect military ceremony ended with a tactical presentation of the aircraft flying with another Mirage 2000D a display by Patrouille Cartouche Doré and the Rafale Solo Display in 2013 Tiger Meet livery The event was closed after a gala evening when the aircraft was on static display with a perfect presentation and lighting Each of the 600 guests present could have his or her picture taken in front of and sometimes on top of the the aircraft The video of the painting process was also officially premiered on that occasion After these ceremonies a profile of the aircraft by Gaetan Marie Bravo Bravo Aviation is now on sale a perfect Christmas present for aviation livery buffs On behalf of SBAP and on my own behalf I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all members of Fighting Squadron 3 3 Ardennes especially to Raoul Ben Axel Xav Rocky and Bob who are attentive leaders very nice friends and indispensable supporters Long live the boars Pencil Sketch of the project Régis Rocca Régis Rocca Régis Rocca Work in progress Régis Rocca Régis Rocca Régis
